Medicare Supplement / Medigap

Understand what
a Supplement adds.

A Medicare Supplement policy works alongside Original Medicare to help pay certain costs that Medicare leaves to you.

Coverage that works with Parts A and B.

Medigap policies are sold by private insurers. Depending on the policy, they help with certain Medicare deductibles, copayments or coinsurance. You generally need both Part A and Part B, and you pay a separate premium for the Supplement.

Medigap is not Medicare Advantage. New Medigap policies do not include prescription drug coverage; a separate Part D plan is usually considered alongside your Supplement.

New York has its own Medigap protections

New York generally requires Medigap insurers to accept applications throughout the year without denying coverage because of health status. A pre-existing-condition waiting period may still apply in some circumstances. Review the state’s guidance and the insurer’s policy terms.

Medigap does not turn ongoing custodial long-term care into a Medicare-covered service.
